VISIT OF THE ECONOMIC MINISTER OF THE NETHERLANDS

 

TThe Minister for Economic Affairs of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Laurens Jan Brinkhorst and his entourage will visit Jakarta on 13-15 February 2005. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, H.E. Hasan Wirajuda and Minister Brinkhorst will officially open the 18th meeting of the Mixed Commission on Economic Cooperation between Indonesia-the Netherlands, which will be held in the Department of Foreign Affairs on 13-15 February 2005.

Minister Brinkhorst will also pay a courtesy call to the Vice President, H.E. Jusuf Kalla and meet various ministers of Indonesia, namely Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, H.E. Mr. Aburizal Bakrie; Minister for Trade, H.E. Mrs. Marie Elka Pangestu; Minister for Transportation and Communication, H.E. Mr. Hatta Radjasa; Minister for Maritime affairs and Fisheries, H.E. Mr. Freddy Numberi; Minister for Finance, H.E. Mr. Yusuf Anwar; and Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, H.E. Mr. Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

The Mixed Commission on Economic Cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands was established in 1968 and is aimed to boost economic cooperation between the two countries. The Commission poses six working groups, namely on trade and investment; energy; agriculture; research and technology; public works, housing and Spatial Planning; and transportation and communication. This 18th meeting of the Commission will discuss, among others, efforts to increase market access, cooperation on small and medium enterprises, effort to better investment climate and other co-operations within its each working groups.

On the sideline of the Commission meeting, “a Special Session on Bilateral Cooperation to rehabilitate and Reconstruct Aceh” will be organized by the Mixed Commission and held in Department of Foreign Affairs on 14 February 2005. This special session is designed by the Commission to explore concrete cooperation to address situation in Aceh on the aftermath of Tsunami. This session will involve participation of private sectors.

During the visit, Minister Brinkhorst plans to sign a MOU on the Program for Cooperation with Emerging Markets (PSOM) with Minister Bakrie. An arrangement on A Bilateral CER Purchase is now being discussed by Indonesia and the Netherlands and is slated to be signed at the end of the Commission Meeting.
