Ciseeng Hot Spring
and Recreation Area
People from Jakarta and Bogor need not
go to far-away Ciater, whinch is near
Bandung, for rest and relaxation at a
hot springs resort, as a similar
recreation facility is available much
closer. The Tirta Sanita resort at
Ciseeng sub-district in Bogor regency
has become a suitable alternative, as it
is only about 55 km. away from Jakarta
and 20 km. from Bogor.
Established in 1992, Tirta Sanita offers
hot spring baths and restful ‘green’
recreation area for individuals or
entire families wanting to picnic. The
families wanting to picnic. The water
flows from a limestone hill across the
lake and, apart from refreshing the
body, it is believed to have curative
property for uric acid, rheumatism, and
skin problems, as it contains sulphur,
lime, and salt. The name Tirta Sanita
actually means ‘healing water’.
The 35?-40? Celcius water is channeled
through pipes to the resort’s 14
ordinary bathrooms and 12 VIP bathrooms,
which have bath tubs in which visitors
can submerge themselves. One emerges
feeling soothed and relaxed, but guests
are warned not to exceed 40 minutes in
the water, because inhaling too much of
the sulfuric vapor can cause respiratory
problems, particularly for asthmatics.
Guests are also advised to bring their
own towels and soaps, as toiletries are
not provided.
An entrance fee of Rp. 5,000 on work
days and Rp. 6,000 on weekends and
holidays is paid at the entrance gate.
Cars and buses can be parked in the
spacious parking area. Those wanting to
stay overnight can rent a room at the
resort’s Melati-class hotel at the
moderate room rate of Rp. 75,000-Rp.
100,000 a night. Food is no problem, as
there are small food stalls in the
compound and a restaurant built on
stilts by the side of the lake with a
nice overlooking the whole area.
The walk from the entrance gate to the
bathing facility by the lake is about
one kilometer along a well0-maintained
path shaped by palm trees.
Garden

For guests only wanting to picnic, Tirta
Sanita has a 21,675 sq. m. green area
under the shade of big trees where they
can spread their mat or just walk around
to enjoy the view and cool climate. The
30-meter-high limestone hill form which
the hot spring water flows to the
bathing rooms is located in the green
area. There is terrace behind it by
which visitors can climb to the top to
have a look at the source of the water.
This hot spring in Ciseeng is considered
a strange phenomenon since they are
usually found near an active volcano.
And although far from the sea, tha water
is salty.
The resort’s manager Agus Sismala Dewa,
says the average numver of visitors is
about 150-200 on workdays and can exceed
1,000 on weekends and holidays. A
special attraction is provided on
weekends and holidays in the form of
live dangdut music and songs.
Visitors wanting to enjoy a good bath
and submerge in the not-too-hot spring
water are advised to come during
workdays, to avoid the crowd. If
recreation and entertainment are the
goal, then weekends and holidays are the
best time for a visit.
