Ciseeng Hot Spring and Recreation Area

People from Jakarta and Bogor need not go to far-away Ciater, whinch is near Bandung, for rest and relaxation at a hot springs resort, as a similar recreation facility is available much closer. The Tirta Sanita resort at Ciseeng sub-district in Bogor regency has become a suitable alternative, as it is only about 55 km. away from Jakarta and 20 km. from Bogor.

Established in 1992, Tirta Sanita offers hot spring baths and restful ‘green’ recreation area for individuals or entire families wanting to picnic. The families wanting to picnic. The water flows from a limestone hill across the lake and, apart from refreshing the body, it is believed to have curative property for uric acid, rheumatism, and skin problems, as it contains sulphur, lime, and salt. The name Tirta Sanita actually means ‘healing water’.

The 35º-40º Celcius water is channeled through pipes to the resort’s 14 ordinary bathrooms and 12 VIP bathrooms, which have bath tubs in which visitors can submerge themselves. One emerges feeling soothed and relaxed, but guests are warned not to exceed 40 minutes in the water, because inhaling too much of the sulfuric vapor can cause respiratory problems, particularly for asthmatics. Guests are also advised to bring their own towels and soaps, as toiletries are not provided.

An entrance fee of Rp. 5,000 on work days and Rp. 6,000 on weekends and holidays is paid at the entrance gate. Cars and buses can be parked in the spacious parking area. Those wanting to stay overnight can rent a room at the resort’s Melati-class hotel at the moderate room rate of Rp. 75,000-Rp. 100,000 a night. Food is no problem, as there are small food stalls in the compound and a restaurant built on stilts by the side of the lake with a nice overlooking the whole area.

The walk from the entrance gate to the bathing facility by the lake is about one kilometer along a well0-maintained path shaped by palm trees.

Garden walk

For guests only wanting to picnic, Tirta Sanita has a 21,675 sq. m. green area under the shade of big trees where they can spread their mat or just walk around to enjoy the view and cool climate. The 30-meter-high limestone hill form which the hot spring water flows to the bathing rooms is located in the green area. There is terrace behind it by which visitors can climb to the top to have a look at the source of the water.

This hot spring in Ciseeng is considered a strange phenomenon since they are usually found near an active volcano. And although far from the sea, tha water is salty.

The resort’s manager Agus Sismala Dewa, says the average numver of visitors is about 150-200 on workdays and can exceed 1,000 on weekends and holidays. A special attraction is provided on weekends and holidays in the form of live dangdut music and songs.

Visitors wanting to enjoy a good bath and submerge in the not-too-hot spring water are advised to come during workdays, to avoid the crowd. If recreation and entertainment are the goal, then weekends and holidays are the best time for a visit.
